María Elena Mendoza Altamirano

Synopsis

María Elena Mendoza Altamirano (Cusco, Perú, 1964) studied art and restoration in Cusco, Perú. Her painting explores the language of materials in assembling the support from fabrics of diverse threads and weaves, and finishes as landscapes using the texture and color of her peublo (village/home).

Education

  • 2006-2008: Workshop in Renaissance Art with Emerita Bucher, Cusco.
  • 1997: Studies in conservation and restoration of pre-hispanic textiles, Universidad de San Antonio Abad, Cusco.
  • 1995: 20th Restoration Course of "Bienes Culturales Muebles y Pintura de Caballete", National Institute of Culture, with Andrés Bello.
  • 1994: Religious Iconography, National Institute of Culture, Peru-Spain Accord.
  • 1987-1994: Bachelors Degree in Art with specialization in drawing and painting - Diego Quispe Tito School of Fine Arts, Cusco, Perú (Escuala de Bellas Artes Cusco - ESABAC).

Work History

  • 2009-2010: Director and Curator, Fractal Dragon Art Gallery, Cusco.
  • 2002-2008: Teacher of drawing, painting and graphic design, Cultural Association "Pasa La Voz".
  • 2006-2007: Volunteer services coordinator, Máximo Nivel Language Center, Cusco.
  • 1995-2005: Teacher of Spanish as a second language, Cultural Center Amauta affiliated with Don Quijote, Cusco.
  • 1991-1998: Restoration of cultural furnishings, easel paintings, sculptures and woodwork from 17th and 18th centuries. Restoring some of the artistic and architectural master works of the Cusco region. Works sponsored by the Peru-Spain International Cooperation Accord and the National Institute of Culture.
